About Us
I know God will not give me anything I can’t handle. I just wish that He didn’t trust me so much – Mother Teresa
————
Angels in the Rough is a family support blog for parents that have children who have gone through or are going to a therapeutic residential program. It was created by a mom whose daughter had attended therapeutic programs with the hope of enabling communications among this community of parents and the hope of creating a space where lessons learned could be shared in a supportive and respectful way.
Given these goals, Angels in the Rough is a “layman-run” support group and, therefore, does not provide professional advice or counseling. As such, the views expressed by the individuals participating in the Angels in the Rough blog are those of the individuals themselves, and should be received and evaluated by each participant at his or her own discretion. All participants are advised to seek independent professional advice.
With this said, a most sincere welcome. It is not easy for any member of the family to find themselves addressing these issues so we hope that this blog makes your journey a little easier. May the quote from Mother Teresa above remind us of the strength we have within.

As many of you following this blog are aware of, I initially opted to keep this blog private and made only available to those families who heard of this blog through word of mouth. This decision was made in part because having a blog was new to me and I wanted to make sure that I “incubated” it for awhile. I will admit that I am still learning about blogging but feel that there is enough material on the site that I have decided to open up the content of this blog to search engines. This will make this content available to a greater population base. My sincere hope is that this content will be of greater use then.

Thank you, Liz, for sharing the practice of Naikan on this blog. I agree that this practice of self-reflection can be very helpful during times of difficulty. It can help us to perceive a wider perspective and to notice what ELSE is true, beyond the troubles and challenges that can otherwise dominate our minds.
I will refer some friends and colleagues to your blog. We are all learning from each other and your blog provides a place for those with experience to share their wisdom and their questions with one another.
I wish you well,

Thank you for your support and well wishes. I look forward to seeing the blog expand with the knowledge and wisdom of others.
Sincerely,
