Willows in the Wind

Through my ed consultant I learned of a SF Bay Area organization called Willows in the Wind (http://www.willowsinthewind.com/home.php).  Willows in the Wind is a peer-to-peer parent support group for parents who have sent their teens to therapeutic program(s). This support is achieved through monthly face to face meetings that promote education/awareness and help prepare families for the transition and aftercare once the teen returns home.

As we obviously have similar goals, I gave their Executive Director, Jan Rao, a call yesterday and shared with her what my hope was for my blog Angels in the Rough. I must say that I was impressed with Jan’s commitment to support families. For those who live in the SF Bay Area, Willows hold their monthly meetings in Los Altos, CA – you may wish to attend if you get a chance. I asked her thoughts on the blog and she liked the idea. One key take away from this conversation was that Jan recommended that Angels in the Rough have guidelines as to how we will interact with each other (e.g. confidentiality, supportive, etc,). I absolutely agree with her and will be developing some guidelines that I will ask participants to adhere to prior to joining our blog. I think it will be in all of our bests interest.

If you have any thoughts on this please feel free to post.

Bests to all
